How NHTSA records the month with the most fatal crashes

The month with the most fatal crashes in each state from 2015 to 2024, pooled across the ten years, with its share of the state's fatal crashes. States are listed A to Z, not ranked, for the same reason as the hour page: a peak share says more about a state's size than its roads.

A share is only given over 20 crashes (or deaths); otherwise the row says "Not enough data" and has no rank. Shares are of fatal crashes or deaths, never rates per driver or per mile: FARS records crashes, not how much people drive. The full method.
